{update} Sprinkles of Fall 2017

I've literally just emerged from a tall pile of papers in my study room just to stroll around on the blog... I miss blogging so much!😔  The number of drafts and photos I prepared back in August are silently collecting dust in their file folders on the desktop while I disappeared into the all-consuming world of teaching, once September arrived.

It's another school year (16-17 ;( gosh, the numbers keep getting bigger!), another mix of student personalities in each cohort, and another carousel of courses for me to build and master. I must say that I have grown to like all my classes, from kids to the subject, to developing curriculum, resources and trying out strategies.

One aspect of work that I STILL feel quite blessed in, is having genuinely supportive and caring colleagues. Teaching can be quite a lonely feat sometimes contrary to the belief that we work in departments of like-subjects and that the job is highly social. Since my arrival at my current school 5 years ago,  every year I've had to reach out and work with someone 'new' due to all my shifting responsibilities -- and so far, what a treat to have such lovely adults around. The people I've worked with not only supported my responsibilities and share resources selflessly, but are also trustworthy and such great resources for mental health maintenance. 💜

Oh, did I also mention that I turned 30? According to my lovely Department leader, it's my Golden birthday because it fell on Sept.30th, when I turned 30 years old. That terminology right there sparked a whole weekend-long of celebrations, starting with high tea at Ritz, then mouth-watering BBQ with even octopus(!) at Rachie's, then Ste.Anne's Spa getaway the weekend after (OK, that's two weekends hehehe).

Fancy balloons from Rachel & Channen. LOVE them!

My mimi cat also turned 6 a day before my bday -- so it was a double celebration!

Beautiful fall day at Ste.Anne's spa in October.

Soaking in the goodness of nature. Meditate.

Today marks the end of the November break, a week-long 'holiday' that only our school has. (yay!) I've spent all the days going through 1) career studies assignments, 2) giving feedback to Biology IA proposals, and 3) personal project process journals, being that I'm the only supervisor this year. At first, I thought I was going to be miserable, but honestly, I'm always pleasantly surprised at what students can bring to the table if a certain degree of freedom was allow in their work, which was properly scaffolded, aiming for high quality. Of courses, there are some that just puts me to sleep, or even worse, have my jaw drop with writing like "get ready, it's gonna be so professional" and "i interviewed the guy from XXX and his name is Steve or something hes a really nice guy" and "i'm pretty happy with work far this is gonna be so cool"..... Is this an assignment addressed to ME?😓

In term of stress-reliever, that's when Sephora VIB Rouge sale came to the rescue (or not???). I remember bragging about how little $$$ I spent / have no urge to spent $$$ on clothes and makeup since the summer in the staff room in September... ... and now this hits me in the face. And we all know how pressure from work X great sales can easily ruin the resolve to keep bank accounts safe and abundant 🙈

Brewing with emotions of disappointment that I was WAYYYY too busy with work BEFORE the VIB Rouge sale, thus did not do adequate research (which is my FAVOURITE part!), I bought merchandise in waves 👿. Yes, WAVES. Of course, some of them are bought on behalf of friends who also wants to take advantage of the 20% off, but really... do I NEEEEED any of the items??? HMMMMMMM........ That would be a TOK question.

I'm no longer sure what the point of today's post is anymore.. but a Sephora Haul might be in the works soon 😊, along with my credit card bill. 💔

As always,

xo, Mary
